About — Why, What, How
What's Club 25 International?
(Not a Member? Click here!)
Club 25 International is a youth-oriented global social club for young people committed to saving lives by regularly donating blood. Through Club 25 youth are encouraged to attend a blood center, learn about healthy lifestyles and to give blood regularly. Members can make new friends around the world, promote life saving and life changing practices, and most of all - have fun while saving lives.
Club 25 is Africa's gift to the world. The concept which originated as "Pledge 25" evolved into a full membership social club in Botswana where it became Club 25 - promoting the value of saving lives by giving blood through active participation and healthy lifestyle choices. The name "Club 25" was taken from the young donor's pledge to "give 25 blood donations". The club became a huge success, and the idea caught on world wide reaching over 65 countries and hundreds of thousands of members!
Why we need youth blood
Quite simply youth are generally healthier than older adults, and people need blood to live. Blood cannot be manufactured and there is no substitute for it. It is in constant demand for accident victims, hemophiliacs, surgeries, anemic mothers and their babies, patients battling cancer and more. In addition, blood supplies need to be replenished constantly as blood products have a short shelf life. By donating blood to insure there is enough in supply, the life we save may be our own.
In the United States, the generation that gives the most is just getting too old. Their children, the "baby boomers", are becoming patients instead of donors. This is not good news. In the United States alone, there is rarely more than 7 days worth of blood in supply. In other countries, people die for lack of blood when they need it.
Our blood supply comes from caring donors like you. When you give blood, you give someone another laugh, another hug, another chance. Learn more about why we need your blood, and how you can join and help save lives!
How you can help...
Roll up your sleeves! Donate.
You have the power and the ability to save lives! Become a member and learn how it all works, connect to a blood center near you and learn their requirements, then donate blood. Once you become a member we invite you to discuss your experience with other members, and to participate in learning activities (coming soon). Ultimately, when you become a member, we would love it if you would invite your friends to the cause, after all Club 25 belongs to the youth!
There are many reasons why you may not be able to donate blood (see FAQ). Maybe you're even a little bit afraid. Whatever the reason as to why you can't donate, it does not mean that you can't become a member and help out. If you can't or feel you are not ready to donate blood, there are other ways you can help:
- Gifted artist? Help design Club 25 brochures and fliers!
- Love to play soccer? Host a game and educate your friends about Club 25.
- Great leader? Once you are a member you can Start a Club 25 chapter in your school, or invite your friends to the site! (already a member? invite your friends now!)
- Love to write? Once you are a member, you can start a discussion topic, or engage other members through the site, Twitter or Facebook.
You have the power and the ability to save lives! Join Club 25 International today!
About Safe Blood International
Safe Blood International Foundation, which includes Safe Blood for Africa Foundation and Safe Blood for China Foundation, was founded by Jeff Busch in 1999. Mr. Busch witnessed first hand the suffering of patients who do not have access to blood for emergency transfusions. He left his successful career as a Wall Street investment banker to dedicate his life to motivating government agencies, private sponsors and funding organizations to ensure that all people have access to safe blood when they need it. Club 25 International is Safe Blood's vision of a global youth blood-donor community that empowers young people to save a life through the generous act of blood donation.
The organization provides technical assistance and or training to medical, technical and blood service personnel all over the world.
In addition to Club 25 International, Safe Blood International supports innovative programs such as the African Club 25 Society for young people, and has also launched the One Million African Lives Initiative with NBA star Emeka Okafor.
